FOLLOW THE LEADER

We used to play a game when I was a kid called: follow the leader. One person was the leader, and everyone else had to follow wherever the leader went. Sometimes the leader would go where it was difficult for others to follow. Anyone who would not go anymore was disqualified. Sometimes, someone would become discontent with the leader, and try to go their own way, and start their own game.

This reminds me of Christians today. God has appointed a leader: Jesus Christ, His Son. He wants us to follow Him always, and sometimes He leads where it might seem difficult to follow. The difference is that Jesus is not just leading us, He also is giving us the ability to follow Him. He makes it possible for us to go where He wants us to go.

There are still those that want to go their own way. They are not really happy with the direction the Jesus is leading. They think that they have a better way to go. They think that the Bible has not kept up with the times. God’s way is not good enough for them.

Many of God’s people want to go into the world, and Jesus is leading us out of the world. These two directions are opposed to each other. We must decide whether to follow Jesus, or follow the world. Following Jesus is voluntary. You don’t have to. He will not drag you kicking and screaming, but he does want us to choose to follow Him.

The conclusion to this matter is that those who chose to follow Jesus, will be extremely glad. Those that choose to follow the world, will enjoy themselves for a short time here, but will lose out on an eternal reward.
