Heart Problems

A man I work with recently went to have some tests done because his doctor thought he had some heart problems. He did not have any problems in the end, but without the tests he could not be sure.

In the Bible, God tells us that He sought a man after His own heart, and found him. That man’s name was David. Acts 13:22, 1 Sam 13:14. David ruled over Israel after Saul. You can read about this in 1st and 2nd Samuel.

When the Bible speaks of man’s heart, it is not speaking about the physical heart that pumps blood. Rather, it is speaking of the innermost being. The part of us that has desires, and makes us who we are. God wants to have full control and authority over our heart. However, He wants us to give up control. He is not going to take control by force. He wants hearts like David that have a desire after Him.

Read the Psalms, and you will find much about David’s heart. David did not write all the Psalms, but many were written by him. Psa 139:23,24 gives us just a small look into David’s heart. His desire was that God would try him and know his heart. God certainly did try David’s heart, and liked what He found. Psa 17:3.

David was not perfect, as we are not perfect, but his heart had a constant desire after God. Psa 27:4, Psa 63:1. God is pleased when our hearts long after Him. When all that fills us is His love. When our hearts seek constantly the presence of God. God tries the hearts. We cannot hide our heart condition from Him. I urge you to let God show you what your heart condition is today. Ask Him for a greater desire in your heart to please Him.
