Time For a Rest
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Mat 11:28.
In the work place, we are given vacation time each year to allow us to take some time off from work. In school, they have breaks at different times of the year to allow for a rest from studying.
Doctors recommend that we get some rest, and relief from stress. It is well known that stress can cause illness, and have ill effects on the physical body. Even young people are being subjected to more and more stress. How can we get relief from the stress of this world?
The worlds methods for relieving stress, are temporary at best. Jesus offers us true rest. Rest, first of all, from our heavy burden of sin. And then, rest from the weariness of life. This does not mean that all will be roses and sweetness.
What it does mean, is that in the times when the stress of life seems to overcome us, Jesus offers peace and rest. A peace that passes understanding. Phil 4:7. A rest that cannot be compared to any rest on this earth. There is no way to describe this rest, or explain the procedure for getting there. It is only had by faith, and can only be understood by experience.
If the stress of life is getting to you, take it to the Lord. Ask Him to show you His rest. Ask Him to give you peace that defies human explanation. He not only can do this, but He wants to do this. He invites us to come to Him and find rest. All we need to do, is accept that invitation. Gordon Crook |
