Wake Up

When I wake up in the middle of the night, I realize how unaware I am of my surroundings. This is because sleeping deprives us from being aware of what is going on around us. We need sleep in the natural to rest our bodies, and allow them to recuperate from the days work or play. In the spiritual, however, we need to rest, but not sleep.

Paul tells us in Rom. 13:11 that it is high time to awake out of sleep, because the coming of the Lord is near. When Paul talks about sleeping, he means that spiritually we are not aware of what is going on around us, and in our lives. Many Christians are walking around unaware of how the world has a hold on their life. We need to awaken and allow the light of the Word to show us what needs to be done in our lives.

A soldier is awakened at all different hours during training to teach vigilance. We never know when the enemy will attack us, and we must be vigilant. If we sleep, and are not vigilant, Satan will attack in very subtle ways. He wants to distract us from our walk with Jesus without waking us. So, this is my shout, as Paul did, to awaken you today, while there is still time.

So, how do we get any spiritual rest if we can’t sleep? Do we just not get any rest spiritually? Thank God that our spiritual rest comes simply by putting our complete trust in our Lord. As we place all our confidence in Him, He will give us rest.

Wake up today and see the signs of His soon coming. He wants you to walk with Him now.
