ResolutionIt is customary at the beginning of the year to make resolutions for the new year. Usually, something that we intend to quit doing, or begin doing, or do better. Almost always, they are related to some behavior. The only problem with these resolutions is that hardly anybody really keeps them, and many of them are impossible to keep. I do not have any resolutions, because I know that I will fail to keep them anyway. There are things about myself that I would like to change. I know that I can try to change them myself, but I also know that any success is going to be short lived. So, I guess you might say that my resolution is to take all my changes to the Lord, and allow Him to effect the change from within. God does not just make it look like we have changed. He starts inside us, changing our heart, and our attitudes. Those changes then begin to reflect on the outside. The way we talk, the places we go, the things we do, how we treat others. There are many different ways that the changes God makes in us are shown to others. We must read the Word of God, and ask Him, by His Holy Spirit, to change our heart. Then, those things in our lives, that we want to make resolutions about, will be truly changed. The Word of God is powerful. Heb 4:12-13. God wants to change your heart, and your attitude. Look to Him. 2 Cor. 3:18. So, instead of new years resolutions, get on your knees, and talk to the Lord. Get your Bible, and begin to study. Go to your local church where they teach the Bible. Allow the Holy Spirit to change you day by day. Gordon Crook |
