LETS GO

This is the call of friends, as they invite you to a party, or to some event of much interest. It is also the call that David wanted to hear in Psalm 122:1. David was glad when he heard those words, just as we are many times glad when someone calls us to go with them to some party or some event. The question I wish to pose is: are we glad when someone says to us, “let us go to church today?”

We read an instruction from the apostle Paul about the need to be in church in Hebrews. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Heb. 10:25. This is not just a suggestion that we might need to go to church once or twice per month or year, but is rather a call to make the “assembling together,” of those that are believers, a priority.

We are certainly very busy today. There are so many things to do, and so many people wanting our attention, and so many places to go. However, we must prioritize all of these things in order of importance or we will not get any of them done. The truth is that every day, we prioritize things in our life, sometimes without even knowing that we are doing it. Every time you choose to do something that keeps you from doing something else, you are creating a priority.

When we have to make a choice to go to church, or go to something else, we must create a priority. There may be some reason that you cannot go to church, and from time to time, every one of us will have some reason that we cannot go to church. What I am referring to, is the time that we have a choice, and choose to not go. Those times show our priorities.

If you knew that going to a certain place, or to a certain event, would cost you your life, would you go there? No, you would not. If you knew that you could gain something of utmost value by being in a ceratin place, would you be there? Yes, you would. Well, I have some good news for you. The time spent in church, listening to the Word of God, and fellowshipping with other saints, will give you an eternal gain. Our spiritual life needs to feed on the Word to grow. We need to be around other saints that can encourage us, and whom we can encourage. This spiritual life is the only thing that has any eternal value at all.

When trying to decide between something that the world has to offer you, and going to church, please consider the following. Think of a balance, and on one side is spiritual gain for eternity. On the other side is temporal gain from this world. Which side are you going to choose? Every choice can be thought of this way. Is it for my eternal benefit or not?

When you realize the importance of being in a church where the truth of the Word of God is taught, you will be glad when they say unto you. Let us go to the house of the Lord. And, those that would take you elsewhere, will not seem so much friends anymore. Anyone who has part in taking away your spiritual gain is not your friend. Maybe you will invite your friends to come with you.
