A young boy awakened at midnight, He listened to the old grandfather's clock strike out the melody of midnight —one, two, three, four . . . and on to twelve. But something went wrong with the old clock and it kept on striking . . . thirteen . . . fourteen . . . fifteen . . . sixteen. The boy became alarmed and ran into his father's bedroom.

He startled his father with these words, "Daddy, I just heard the old clock strike sixteen! It must be later than it's ever been before!"
