The Heart Healer

"Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely...He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds." Ps. 147:1,3. Are we not glad to know the comeliness of singing praise unto our loving God? Praise worthy praise is indeed pleasant to our Father, our Redeemer and to each of us that are wholeheartedly involved.

This psalm indicates some of the wonderful ways that our God would make himself known unto us. As we come to know our God better, we are amazed at how tender and personal He designs to be in His revelation unto us. He encourages us to call upon him, having made Himself so available to our call, and accessible to His people who make faith's claim upon Him as their own and only Lord God. It is impressive to consider the many wonderful glimpses He gives us in our daily walk with Him. It is so great to observe closely what he has done, is doing and will do. Let us enjoy this precious and personal revelation of Himself as our "heart healer and wound binder." Shall we allow these revelations call forth songs of praise? Oh, yes!

"I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities." Ps. 31:7. We are surprised at times when he has to show that he knows us better than we know ourselves. There are times He must make it clear that it takes a wounded or broken heart to prepare us to know Him deeper, closer, in sweet heart understanding. If our heart never breaks, over the great suffering that our sinfulness has caused him, how would we ever be saved?

There are hard hearts; hurting hearts, there is the hurtable, and hurting, tender hearted and touchable by God's Word. Isa. 66:1,2. There are those so accessible, even teachable that they can truly say, "Speak my Lord, and I'll be quick to answer thee." There are the pliable, plowable, others are so dull toward God and God's Word, and have such a passive attitude such as "I can take it or leave it," Shame on you! Oh, God help you!

Jesus, God's Son was sent and equipped by the Holy Spirit to be our heart healer. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me, to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and the recovering of sight to the blind, and to set at liberty them that are bruised." Lk. 4:18.

God said at the bitter waters of Marah, "I am the Lord that healeth thee." Ex. 15:26. Acts 10:38 it is testified that He healed them that were oppressed of the Devil. He whom is our only hope, said, "Let not your hearts be troubled." Jn. 14:1. I am coming again. Oh what peace, assurance and comfort for our hearts.

SPIRITUAL HEALING

While growing up in western Kansas and western Colorado, our family of eight witnessed many marvelous healings. We could write a book on God's faithfulness to heal our bodies, but I don't remember much being said about inner healing, of the mind, and our emotions, but we learned to trust God for the whole person, body, soul and spirit.

There are those of God's people that have experienced divine healing physically and often forget it unless reminded. Some never mention it. It seems to me that inward spiritual healing is far less forgettable. It is saddening to observe those that want to dwell on the things that broke their heart and seemingly never get well. There are some that seem to enjoy harboring hurts. Such attitude has never done us or those we know any good.

There are those that allow our physical condition to hinder spiritual health. Then we often find that the spiritual condition is allowed to be detrimental to physical well-being. There are many programs that will teach how to deal with hurts of the heart. Jesus said offences will come. Let us look unto our healer for the wisdom, and faith to place our hurts in his hand, even cast all our cares on Him. There is lameness in the heart that hinders our walk. Paul suggested in Hebrews, "rather let it be healed."

We have a saying on a neighborhood church, "We can't heal unless we feel the heart hurt." I believe they are pointing to compassion. When we feel the hurt of others, it is wise to call upon Him that is touched with the feelings of our infirmities. Divine love has been sent for the healing of human hearts.

"The righteous cry and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." Ps. 34:17,18.

If you have ever been so terribly disappointed, and are experiencing heart-break, if you can't seem to get over it. It has never really helped you to dwell on it. Is it so blessed to focus on Jesus in your faith, and allow Him to cause you to realize real joy, and happiness. Let Him be your help, hope and the healer of your heart. Allowing the Lord to be your healer prepares us to help in encourage others to also take hold of such marvelous deliverance.

Jesus came to die for the fallen human race. I believe we are able to sense some pain when He requested in the Garden of Gethsemane, "Father if it be possible let this cup pass from me." There are those that could tell us from an autopsy that a medical diagnosis would indicate that water and blood gushing out of our dear Lord's wounded side would indicate a bursted heart. That in Psalms 22, gives us a physical sign. WE know it hurt. When betrayed by Judas, when the disciples forsook Him and fled, when the crowd mocked Him that was there to suffer for their sin. Sure the stripes and the thorns hurt. When Peter had said, "I know Him not." It hurt! "My heart is like wax it is melted in the midst of my bowels. Ps. 22:14. Ah, when He was wounded and afflicted, and made sin for us. When He asked, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?" He knew why and His heart hurt. Thank God, the Spirit of God was upon Him for He had sent Him to heal the broken hearted."

Godliness is the knowledge of God in the mind;
the grace of God in the soul;
the love of God in the heart;
the obedience to God in the life.
