The Last Days

Anita Clark

“The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither He had driven them; and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.” Jeremiah 16:15

“Therefore wait upon me, saith the Lord until the day I rise up for the prey; for my determination is to gather the nations, that I might pour on them my indignation, even all my fierce anger; for the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. For then will I turn to the people a pure language. That they may call upon the name of the Lord that they serve Him with one consent. From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring my offering.” Zeph. 3:8-10

These prophesies written by God’s prophets so long ago are being fulfilled today. God has gathered the Jews from many area of the world where they had fled at the times of their dispersal. The Jews began to speak the language of the nations in which they lived. Many did not know their native tongue at all. Many felt the Hebrew language was so sacred that it should not be used as the speech for secular life. In order for them to get desperate enough to want to leave their homes among the nations, God has allowed persecution to come, some of which was despicable (The Holocaust). When Theodor Herzl, father of Zionism, was being used of God, when he began to stir up the Jews to go to Israel and establish a national homeland in Israel. The return of this exiled people to their formerly owned land in our time, is a fulfillment of prophecy. Jesus said, “Now learn a parable of the fig tree (the Jewish people): when its branch is yet tender, and putteth forth her leaves, ye know that summer is nigh. So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near even at the door.” Matt. 24:32-33. Israel is called a fig tree in Scripture and is a sign that the Lord’s coming is at hand. We have seen the fig tree putting forth leaves. God has been bringing Israelites back to their land since World War II. They became a state in 1948. We rejoice that we have seen this prophecy fulfilled before our eyes.

Another factor in the return of Jews to the land, was that many Jews had lost their ability to speak in the Hebrew language. Some thought it too sacred to speak, so the children did not learn. There was a man who was especially concerned with getting all Jews returning to Israel to speak the old Hebrew language. His name was Eliezer Ben-Yehuda. His aim was “Israel in own land, speaking its own language.” He experienced a vision from God where a voice spoke to him, “The resurrection of Israel on its ancestral soil.” Some skeptical colleagues criticized the notion saying, “The Jews are not now and could not be a nation in the future because they do not possess a common tongue.” However, it has happened. A modern miracle! Israel is established in their own land and speak Hebrew, their ancient language. A writer for the magazine, ISRAEL MY GLORY, Steve Herzig states, “There is but one nation in the world whose people were forced to leave their home land, to survive more than nineteen hundred years in other countries, and to finally come home, and once again have their own national ancient language Hebrew.”

Truly, there is nothing too hard for our God. His Word has been fulfilled in the past, and will continue to be fulfilled in the future. We can stand on, and depend upon it to come to pass. This fact is a comfort to me. God will fulfill all His promises and good pleasure toward me. I am assured of that.

ISRAEL’S BOMB - An article in the U.S.NEWS & WORLD REPORT, Feb. 14, 2000, states Israel has kept the status of its nuclear bomb arsenal secret for the past 35 years. Recently, there was an open discussion in Israel’s parliament, where it was reported that Israel has the sixth largest nuclear arsenal in the world.

The article states, “As Israel considers its options during discussions of peace with its neighbors, they need to be aware that Israel’s last line of defense is the bomb.”

At this present time Israel’s Ehud Barak and Palestinians, Yasser Arafat are trying to make headway on a peace deal. The status of Jerusalem is the main topic of discussion and disagreement.

Yesterday, Palestinians in Israel said they would never allow Jerusalem to be divided again and that it should be given to them as their capital. Compromise must come or there will be no peace. The world is ripe for a leader to arise with such persuasive speech, and declare that he has the answer for all the problems. Can you see how near we are to Christ’s coming?
